Hi all. I recently obtained my grandfathers 95 gt and have started the semi build process. I just lowered the car on bc coilovers with a steeda bump steer kit and steeda x2 ball joints with MM extended tubular control arms. I’m trying to figure out what the best choice would be for a square stance set up on 18” sve gt 350 style wheels. I’m not a drag racer. The car’s purpose at the moment is a semi d/d with canyon driving. I was hoping for 275/35/18 but wanted some advice. Thanks!

Welcome!!!

What width are the wheels your looking at? Are you going true square or actually staggered?

Thanks for the reply! I have the option of 9” or 10” and I’m leaning towards the 10’s but as I said, trying to find info on this set up has been difficult!

Amd I’m shooting for true square though my mind isn’t completely set. I’ve heard running staggered with 275’s up front can cause the steering to walk a bit with different crowns in the road but not for everyone.

With most 18x9 wheels with close to +26 offset, 275/35/18 is as wide as you want to go without risking running. You’ll also be pretty close to flush with the fender with that size.

I run that wheel and tire size in rear and 265/35/18 in front and have a little rubbing.

Is it rubbing in the front? Would rolling the fenders help? Lmr sells the wheels I’m looking at in a set with 18x10 for rear and 18x9 for front.

A staggered setup will create understeer, which will make the car handle worse. A square setup is better for handling. Offset is really important. And, you will have less room on a 94-98 car, because the fenders are narrower than a New Edge. Your coil overs will also limit tire size a little (or require a spacer). And, negative camber will help the tires clear the fenders.

I do know people who have run 18x10" square rims with coil overs on 94-98 cars with 275/35/18 tires. But, every car is different, so they might not work on yours.

These videos might help.

The first one covers choosing the right size tires for autocross, but there's a lot of info in it that pertains to your question.

The second video covers the process I used to fit 315s on 18x10" SVE s350 rims on the front of my New Edge Mustang. With coil overs on a 94-98 Mustang, you probably won't be able to fit 315s on your car, but the process will show how you can test the rims and tires you want to use on your car.

A +20 offset seems to be the magic number for fitting 18x9.5" or 18x10" rims on these cars. If you have any questions, please ask.

Thank you for all the info! I will be watching these. Really hoping I can go 275 square!

I have a 94GT and run 275/40/17 in the front and 285/40/17 in the rear. The lower part of the rear inner quarter had to be hammered out a little but nothing serious. Rims are Cobra R 9” front and rear. No rubbing.
