The mustang is ghetto. The shifter keeps getting stuck in gears / won't go into gears anymore. Bottom line is it's old and need's to be replaced. Now I'm considering my options. I reallllllly want a 6 speed (T-56) but i started researching a little and it doesn't seem like it'll work. I'm sure it would work on the 4V's but not my measly pushrod. Now I looked up the website thats selling them on e-bay (http://www.smartpartsauto.com/manual_transmissions_mustang_t56_4106.htm"]<SPA>[/url]) and noticed that if I would attempt to try and do this, the first thing i know wouldn't work would be the speedo (unless i can somehow rig it). Not to even mention I have no clue whether or not it will mesh up with the 5.0L. Basically I want to drive my car on the highway again and be able to cruise comfortably at 75-80mph without having to rev to 3g's. I have 4.10 gears that are killing me with the t-5. I know thats my main problem but i will change that also AFTER i get the tranny. Plus, it's just badass to have a 6-speed lol! Open discussion, please give me ideas.

so you want the six speed just for the WOW factor right? If so thats a lot of cash to put into a wow factor item :-\, If I were you I would just go with a TKO or Tremec set up in your car. But if you are dead set on the 6......good luck :)

Don't get me wrong it is sorta the "wow factor" as you put it, BUT its more for function. I do A LOT of highway driving and it just makes sense. I was looking at the TKO's also but no extra gear. With that said, I also remember hearing along the line that the T-56 is similar to the T-45 in the sense that the T-45's 5th is just like the T-56's 6th. So, I was thinking just get the dirrerantly geared TKO tranny. But, I don't understand this whole gearing thing so I wanna explore my options before dropping $1500. :dunno:

they swappeda T56 into a fox in the January issue of MM&FF...should be similar to what you would need for yours.

stevo arnt u pushing a lot of hp?

i think the t-56 is only good for 450-500 hp?

you would have to get a viper spec t56 to gain the extra overdrive gear. The other t56's have an extra gear in between not a higher overdrive gear so it wouldnt help lower your highway rpms.

Howdy Steve oh. lol I have 4.10's and a t3650. At 70mph im turnin like 2300rpm's and it cruises nice on the highway. I know alot of guys in here dont like the 3650 but ive never had a problem with it (knock on wood).

the 3650 owns the T5/T45 like hardcore buttsex style...so much smoother.
