Just bought a very nice 97 Cobra which still sports the original exhaust that is in great shape. A cat back system is coming, but I'd like to remove the stock exhaust without cutting if that is possible. Is that even a possibility and any tips?? Thanks

You can but you'd have to unbolt the lca's and let the rear suspension hang. If youre not doing it on a lift good luck. Why do you not want to cut it anyway?

Just cut it before it starts to bend over the axle. There's no way to remove it in one piece unless you undo the lower control arms. So much work lol.

No point in trying to salvage it. Not worth anything whether it's in one piece or twenty.

Some owners like to keep all the stock parts for collector value so down the road they can have a 100% original car. I did that with my old Road Runner and when I went to sell it the buyer went nuts over the stock parts that went with it.

Big difference in a an old road runner and a 97 cobra. The cobra isn't exactly tearing up the auction block at barret Jackson!!!! Lol

Yet... The Cobra is 18 years old now. What was a minty 1970 Mach 1 worth in 1988 compared to today?

I get the idea, and there's nothing wrong with that. But. A late 90's Cobra will never be in the same league as an old Mach 1. These 96-98 Cobra's are a dime a dozen unless it's a mystichrome one. That being said. Drop the read lower control arms and sway bar, and have at it. To make it easier, unbolt the rear most hangers by the end of the bumper. That way when you unbolt the catback from the midpipe you can wiggle it back and forth with no resistance.

Ford made 40,000 Mach 1s in 1970. They made 10,000 Cobras in 96, 10,000 in 1997, and 8,500 in 1998.
