Hello, I am a new member and have a 94-base coupe v6 auto 79k original mi. I'm getting ready to do a 347 t5 swap I have all I need to complete but the trans. I can get a good deal on a 98 v6 trans I know the bell housing needs to be replaced but are the trans the same as the v8 cars I have heard conflicting reports on this. Can anyone give me the truth? Thanks

From what I’ve read they’re mostly the same but have a lower torque rating. Whatever you end up getting you’ll need to build to handle the torque of the 347 so be prepared to build it.

Ok that makes perfect sense. The question is it more cost efficient to rebuild and replace the weak components or just buy one that can handle the eng. I've replaced the 7.5 rear with a 8.8 3:55 with 31 spline axles already so the trans would be the weak link.

Depends on the budget and what hearing you want. If money isn’t an issue I’d go with either a t56 or tkx.

I just did the t56 magnum and now that the check is written and it is installed I have no regrets. It took a little bit of work to get in and now one likes writing those checks but since then there is a strange fear/satisfaction when sliding it into 6th.

If money allows tkx or t56 would be your best bet

If you are tight on budget, just run it until you break it. The trans will likely break under powershifting. If you like the T-5, you could look into the Astro A-5 as another option.
