So I got a rebuilt T5 a few years ago, and so far I've managed to blow up 3rd gear. Only maybe 3500 miles or so. Anywho. I can pull the trans and give it to my guy, $300 in LABOR to do a full rebuild as long as I supply the parts. Now. The car is a HCI car, full bolt ons, coilovers, sfc's, 2 step etc, gears... Basically I beat the crap outta it on occasion. I don't want a standard T5 rebuild kit. Need something good for about 400ish hp, I'll be spraying it eventually. Any recommendations, or personal reviews with certain kits?

It's the case itself that's known to give in high HP applications. There's quite a few different options out there for better quality. But figure up the price of 300 for the rebuild and probably another 600 to 800 to buy all the parts and you're not far from the price of a tko...

Buy a t45source transmission... they're interchangeable right?

I think you can only use t45s on modular cars, they were factory on 96+ 2valve and some 4 valve cars, bell housing is diffrent.

t5 or t5 based / tk0 are the 5 speed transmissions to fit a pushrod pre 96 87-95 cars.

or you can spend $ and make a t56 work.

Personally I wouldnt even try even if you could spend the $ for a t45 to work they are junk. might as well go with a built tk500 or t56 for same $. out of the box the tko500 and tko600 can handle 500-600 hp and torque and they are only $2500 new. a t45 out of the box is as bad as a t5 even built is lucky to match the tk0600 out of the box. you can always go with built tk0 and built t56 will handle 700+ all day.

Yeah tbh I wanna stick with a T5. I don't want to buy another clutch, flywheel, shifter etc. 2500 on a tranny is wayyy more than I'd want to spend. I'd like to be 1k and under between parts and labor. In a perfect world I'd have a T56.

well any tranny brand new is gonna cost you more then $1k lol , all new trannys are 1500-3500. + clutch+ is added cost ontop of that, all the t56 are 2 to 3k new. a tko 5 speed new is 2-3k. a t5 new is $1400. your gonna have to look for used trannys if your budget is that low

Yeah I know. Just didn't want to spend that much tbh. I bought the tranny new 2 years ago. Just wanted to rebuild it. Just dropped like 4k into the car within 2 months, trying to slow down haha. I figure a good rebuild kit with labor might hit 1000-1.2k. That would guarantee me a beefed up trans, and I don't have to go through anyone's shit. Used T5's here go for anywhere from 400-1k, it would still need the upgraded rebuild kit plus labor anyways.

Go check the classifieds on the many forums out there. If you're patient you can score a tko cheap.
