So I'm planning to do a t56 swap into my 98 GT and I have heard that you have to get a custom driveshaft made is that true? Why couldn't I just get a cobra driveshaft is there something drastically different that I don't know of? I'm just trying to gain some knowledge and clarity here.
Well the IRS came with the t56s that's why it won't be an exact fit unless you did an IRS swap along with the t56
Not doing that that's for sure. Is there a better trans option that I wouldn't need to get a custom driveshaft. I want around 600-700 HP is the ultimate goal and I want a trans that will hold up to that and a t45 wouldn't do that.
You don't need a custom drive shaft. The 03 drive shaft will work. . Just need a conversion u joint..
A T45 will if it's built. The one from t45source I've been eyeing is the second tier and it's rated at 550 lb-ft. I think they go up to a little above 700. With that kind of power even with a t56 you're going to want to look at a Magnum.
