I picked up this heap the other day. It's a 95 Mustang GT. It had a few pros, and a whole lot of cons.

The body is decently straight, and the paint is a good 10fter. Overall, it looks respectable I guess.

The interior is pretty decent, somebody dyed the door panels black, which annoys me... I'll be going back to a gray set.

It ran... well, kind of! It would only stay running with the mass air and IAC unplugged.

The exhaust consisted of stock headers, a decent'ish o/r x-pipe, and some 10 series knocks offs with turn downs. Instead of using flowtubes, they just cut the flange off the x-pipe, and welded the mufflers straight to it... you can probably imagine how the fitment was. Mufflers hung really low, so low they had holes in them from all the road rash. When I backed it off the trailer, I forgot about the mufflers being so low, and of course they got hung up on the trailer and bent the x-pipe up... I might be able to straighten it out? It was leaking at the header connection anyways, because you know, they bolts were loose.

The car did have a GT40 (Explorer) intake, a Trickflow elbow, unknown TB, 42lb injectors, a power dyne supercharger, and a BBK mass air.

I got the car home and started checking into it. There were vacuum leaks everywhere. I think I got most of them fixed, and now the car will run with the mass air and IAC plugged in, but now it's running pig rich (I'm sure they massive exhaust leaks aren't helping that.)

First order of business is to get a decent exhaust on it. I'll be searching for some decent used headers (preferably long tubes, but whatever.) I will also probably just replace the mid pipe (with a cheap used h or x pipe.) For the cat back, I'll probably just pick up a cat back off ebay (either one of the flowmaster 40 series knock offs, of the DNA one for the 96-04 cars (the 94-95 systems are out of stock everywhere.)

I'm probably yank the e7 off and go with some gt40 heads. Then I'll probably drop it off at stlmustangs and get it turned... I really don't like the power dyne, but it's there so I'll use it. Hoping for around 375 to the rear wheels once its tuned. Later on down the road I might do a 351w swap and do a turbo...

Here's some pics from the previous owner... I'll start posting more pics as I work on it... I will also have a video series on this car.

I'm going to change things up a bit. I've listed the power dyne on some of the local pages. If it sells, I'm going to slap some gt40 heads on it and let it eat. The car already has an explorer intake and an unknown cam. Probably throw some 3:73 or 4:10 gears in it.... maybe hit it with a 150 shot....

is it a GTS or did they swap out the trunk? I see it has power windows/locks but that doesn't mean it is not a gts

That car dont look bad at all. Good score
It's honestly not too bad....
Like that teal
It's been repainted at some time. It's not real far off from the factory teal, but it's a bit more blueish.

It's a GT, there's little plugs where the spoiler holes were.
Always loved this color!
I do to. This one has been repainted, it's real close to the stock color, but its a bit more blueish... It looks real good out in the sun...

So the plan is to get the car up and running as cheap as possible for right now while I make up my mind on what I want to do.

The power dyne isn't going to make the power I want. I decided to go ahead and yank it off, and get the car up and running n/a for right now.... so that's what I did today, yanked the power dyne off. I'm hoping that sells locally, or I can trade it parts that I actually need.

So what do I need to get the car up and running? At least a mid-pipe and a cat-back system (I want tailpipes.) I think I might have some mac equal lengths out in the shed that I forgot about... that or I didn't forget about them, and I sold them... haha, I need to go out there in the morning and check. The key is to keep things as cheap as possible, as the future plans are probably going to be changing the exhaust up anyways.

The car currently has 47 lb injectors in it. The bbk mass air says it's calibrated for 19lb injectors. I peaked around at the compute and didn't notice a chip. Pretty sure it hasn't been tuned and that's the issue. So for now, I'm going to toss some stock 19lb injectors back in it and see if it runs better. It doesn't need those big injectors n/a. I'll double check the computer tomorrow to make sure there isn't a chip in it, if there is, I'll probably just remove it for now.

I was hoping the car already had gt40 heads on it, since it had the explore intake... but no dice, just the stock e7's. The car is supposedly cammed, but it's hard to tell with it running so rough... some of the other information I got from the seller was incorrect.

I'm hoping to have the car back up and running this weekend if I can track down the parts that I need. If I can get the car running decent, I'll drive it as is while I collect parts for the real build.

Still sorting out what exactly I want to do, but I'm heavily leaning towards the on3 turbo kit. I'm also trying to decide between keeping the 5.0 and shooting for between 450-500 hp, or getting a 351w and shooting for 600-650 hp...

I'd really like the car to run at least high 10's, have full interior, cold air, and a decent little stereo system... oh, and be daily driveable... haha, yeah I want it all... lol

Car complete before I started ripping it apart.

Supercharger is off, pull the upper intake so I could get to the injectors... went ahead and yanked the valve cover hoping to see roller rockers or at least aftermarket springs.... :(

Tomorrow I'm jack up the rear of the car and see if it has the 3:73 gear it's suppose to have.... ah, the joys of buy stuff off market place...

So I havent really touched the car other than yanking the computer and verifying that it was chipped, so it was tuned at some point. rather the tune was ever good, or if the chip crapped the bed, who knows...

I have been collecting parts for the car. I got a 97 gt40 headed explorer long block with 160xxx miles on it... score!

Got a n41 cam... score!

Got an offroad hpipe... score!

Got the brackets I need to run the engine without the supercharger... score!

stock mass air sensor... score!

stock injectors.... score!

So the plan is to get the motor thats already in the car up and running good while I get the explorer motor ready.... pics coming next time I'm down at the shop!

Started pulling apart the engine. Got the valve covers and the intake off. Man this thing is CLEAN. Tomorrow I’ll pull the heads and oil pan, pull a main and rod cap or two to see the rest of the story, but so far I’m happy with the motor.

Here’s the video from today.

Here’s a few pics.

Got the motor out of the car. Tomorrow I’ll shove the car outside and power was the engine pay and get it ready for the new engine.066D6380-734C-4567-AB42-B4EC8B4F0846.jpeg

K-member is teal. Been kind of slacking on this project lately. My back is very troublesome, but I got my boys to go out with me today and we power washed the engine bay and all the parts going back on the car. Tomorrow I'll probably go back over everything with my steamer (power washer got 90% of the crude off, the steamer will take care of the rest.) Then it'll be time to start scuff things down and primer and paint!

Well boys, I have decided to go carbureted. Honestly, the car will most likely get a 6.0 LS next winter, so spending 1000 bucks on a tune doesn't make much sense. I'm hoping I can sell or trade the explorer intake, sn95 rails with adjustable fuel regulator, 42lb injectors, trick flow elbow, bbk tb, and bbk mass air for a decent intake (stealth, air gap, etc) and a decent carb (something in the 650cfm range.

That will get the car up and running the cheapest, and probably make the most power. I'm still up in the air between a 351w based stroker, or a 6.0 ls.... while I try and make up my mind, I can at least race the car this spring/summer/fall.

So far so good! Wish I’d have took the time to clean my engine bay up when I yanked my engine.. love a good looking carb’d engine! What’s the deal with the white Gt in the back?

I bought the white 98 GT to ls swap. I got the car back to the shop, and my brother n law decided he wanted it. He bought a 10 crown vic motor to slap in it, but kind of lost motivation. I might end up buying it back, and ls swapping it...

Nice. I’ve contemplated 4.8 swapping my 96 as well and having a rowdy street car and retain ac.
