Temperature gauge reading depends on gas gauge?

Hi all,

I have a 1995 Mustang GT. Just got it a couple of weeks ago.

I am noticing that when the gas gauge is low, the temperature gauge reads low. Like cold all the time low.

But when I fill up my gas tank to full, the gauge reads in the normal range.

Any ideas?

did you pull the gauges out to maybe replace some bulbs anytime recently? On the back of the gauges where the harness connects it has some copper trace lines that are known to lift and possibly move over enough to touch the line next to it. If it were me I would start there.

Yes, I recently replaced the instrument bezel (and now my trip odometer does not work! Regular odo does though). However, I noticed this problem with the temperature gauge before I did that - just did not make the connection to the gas gauge until I filled up today.

I'm going to pull the cluster again to see if the plunger pin is bearing down on the trip odo and I will check and clean all contacts. When I replaced the bulbs, I used a pencil eraser to polish the copper contacts there. Should have done that on the two connectors also.
