Yo!
I am working on selling some stuff and consolidating. Part of that is getting rid of my 30’ gooseneck trailer for a smaller ~20’ bumper pull that I can pull with my V10 truck versus keeping my Powerstroke around just to hook to the gooseneck.
The replacement for that 30’ has to be able to haul my rock crawler. It’s a fat pig at a little over 7,000lbs and I’m not comfortable slapping it on a 10k rated trailer, knowing that the trailer is 3,500lbs by itself. I also need it to be a full 102-104” width for as wide as the crawler. I also want something that will be friendly for the Cobra or any of my other cars. I have an enclosed trailer that works pretty well for hauling the cars but it’s a billboard in the wind and an open deck would make life a lot easier, and again, if I have a bumper pull that can haul a car, I can even get rid of the enclosed later on down the road.
So that gets me looking at some pretty specialist car hauler trailers to get everything on my must-have list- 102-104” width, ~20’ long, winch mount and battery tray from the manufacturer, with 14K axles. I can find those trailers in whatever color with 10k axles all day long but it looks like the 14Ks are made to order so it can be done. However, I’ve noticed a ton of 14k equipment trailers, with gravity tilt decks, that meet all my requirements and also somehow, end up cheaper than the specialized car hauler route. And they’re sitting on trailer lots everywhere around here.
My concern is the angle of those tilt decks and loading lowered cars on it. My SN95s have always been the pickiest about getting loaded, but the low ones usually back on any trailer with a slide out ramps and a dovetail and maybe kiss the mid pipe, but I know what I’m working with. Does anyone have experience with the tilt decks and our cars? It’s the angle shallow enough to load up easily, or does it just turn into a hassle?
Pic tax for the uninformed- this trailer doesn’t meet my needs but it was the first tilt deck to show what I’m talking about.
