Hi guys. My son “kissed” a curb a couple days ago and took a chunk out of a new tire sidewall. Pic attached. You can see the width of it pretty good. Depth is probably 1/16-3/32. Do I need to replace the tire already or am I ok? Thank you!

I would not sweat the tire, now the kid on the other hand I would have him sweating one way or another to learn not to do it again. :) If it were me I would send him down to the tire place to have them take a look and have them tell him it has to be replaced but then again they charge $75 at most places just to look at it....

He was pretty upset already. He actually does take pretty good care of the car. I rode him pretty good about it. Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. I had hoped that would be it.

Ouch!

Id run it. Ive ran much worse. Should be fine. The chunk is the curb protector which is thick rubber for protecting the wheels rim against curbs. Your guy must have attempted a skate board trick with the car.

Replace it. Not worth the risk. In Massachusetts you can't have a tire repaired if the damage is in the sidewall.

All I am seeing is some slight cosmetic damage. If the rubber hasn't been scrapped down to the cords, it is fine.
