So I bought a timing kit for my 97, stock block with Romeo pi heads and cams. The kit came with two metal plates that were packaged with the tensioners and for the life of me I cam not figure our if I'm supposed to put them behind the tensioners or not. They appear to be maybe a bleed back preventer? Help with oil pressure retention? If anybody knows if I'm supposed to utilize them or not feel free to drop input

Those are for the very early Romeo engines. Pre 96.
Thank you very much. I'm assuming that means don't install them then I'm gonna try to find a pic of a pre 96 block so I can see the difference so I can get the why in my head. Excellent learning opportunity so thank you for sending me on the right path

So I found out the hard way a couple weeks ago the machine shop left the oil galley plugs out of the back of the heads.... I realized when putting this timing kit in that they put the plugs in the holes for the tensioners instead which would explain my tensioner noise

Oh no.

That really just means that you put the heads on the wrong side. The heads are reversible and the plugged side goes toward the firewall.

Welp. Tbh I didn't believe you, did a Google search and I'll be damned. Either way I got the pipe plugs where they need to be, Cams on the correct side, and the timing guides are also on the correct side so it's all good now. But ain't that some shit

Yeah man. The heads are the same. Just have to flip the head around and relocate the oil galley plugs.

Wait! Have you started the engine again? There’s a plug on the bottom of the head too. @96blak54 do you have a picture of the deck on a pi head?

Disregard. There are two galley plugs on the bottom of the head. I was worried that it only took one. But, everything I’ve seen shows both ports plugged. You should be ok.
