tire size help

I have a 95 I also have wheels directly off an 03 cobra I think the rims are 9 inches wide correct me if im wrong but what im asking what is a nice size tire for the rear right now I have 275-45-17 and I would like some thing bigger to fill out the wheel well. I donÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t want it to look heinous I was thinking a 285 or 295 but donÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t completely understand how the tire sizing works so I donÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t know what other sizes I would need

You could do 285s.

285(width)-45(sidewall size % of width)-17(wheel size) if thats what you meant?

now is that a taller side wall because i would like the side walls to be a little taller than what it is now

not sure they make a 295 in a 17..? do they??

If you want the sidewall bigger then instead of 45s you need something bigger like 50 or even 55 which are too big for my likes. But the middle number is the sidewall height just as matt said.

Well the middle number is the side wall percentage. Its 45% of the overall width but I didnÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t know if you change the width of the tire could the side wall percentage change meaning if I have a 275-45 would the side wall be the same size as a 285-45 because its only a percent of the over all with because the second one is wider I would think the side wall would be higher. I wish the rear ends on these cars where nicer. The tires look so dinky in the wheel wells you need like one inch spacers and huge tires to even make it look remotely proportioned to the wheel wells. Ok so im looking at 285-50-17 MABY a 55 I would have to think on that one does any one have pics of some different tire sizes on our cars
