Can’t wait to see that Mach back up and running!!!

Depending on what y’all find in the bottom end, what are your plans for the new build?? We all know you won’t just put it back together as is!!!!! [emoji38]

Have you gotten that engine torn down yet? I’m really curious what you’ll find.

Not yet. Hopefully by end of week will have it torn down and inspected.
Yes depending on what I have to fix, it might end up with more compression - ported heads- custom cams.
LOL

Well not what I was wanting to find.

Apparently, the previous owner ran the engine low in oil at some point and cooked the bearings in it. It must have been just on the edge of failing when I got it. I've had it in the car for 4 years, but only put 2,800 miles on it. In that time I've had synthetic oil (10W-30) in it and change it frequently and have it at the proper level in the hash marks.
When we took it apart the oil pump had NOT failed, but had a few small bits of metal in it.
It had spun 2 rod bearings and 1 main bearing.
I was mad but also confused and then mad again.

Oh well.
Now I get the joy of finding a new block, crank, rods, pistons and building an entire new bottom end.
The good news (if there is any) was the heads/cams actually checked out OK and can be reused.
Obviously I am going to go thru them and freshen them up.

Stay tuned as we build a nice upgrade to the ol' Mach 1.

Is the block not machinable?

That's what I'm wondering.

Man that really sucks. From the color of those pistons, it looks like they didn’t change the oil too often either.

Great videos brother! I hate to hear about the engine, that would burn me up! I know you will get things go in. Good luck finding a block, I hope you get a great one.:)

I'm sure someone could machine/use the block if they wanted.
However Fastlane informed me for my build they highly encouraged me to start with a block that didn't have this type of damage.
Melvin said anytime he's seen a block come in with the mains spun out of them, he doesn't like to try to fix/use them in any high horsepower application.
I trust him so I'm just gonna get a new block, crank, etc.

Quick update -
Engine is just about completed.
Got it real close now. The stock balancer was installed, but I decided that I don't trust it, and having Melvin order/install a new aftermarket onto it. He is also going to have my lower intake painted black to match my timing cover.
Can't wait to start putting this back into the Mach 1.

What balancer did you end up going with?

Few things done to the Mach 1 over the weekend.
Mounted the Lokar shifter.
Installed the Quick6 controller and started running the wiring harness.
Removed the IRS rear and installed the solid 8.8 rear.
