I’m about to put 4.10 gears in my 96 gt with automatic trans. Was wondering if a tube is required or not ?

For 4.10s in that auto to do the plastic gear speedo correction you must change both the gears.

Anybody know which gear I would need for a 3.73 rear in my 98 5-speed?

Double checking on the recalibration tool being needed. I’ve read in couple other places on line that on 99 and up you need it. But on 98 and down automaticS you can just do the plastic gear swap. So are we sure i need a recalibration for a 96 ?

The 96 to 98 GTs got an 8 tooth drive gear which didnt leave it with much options for swapping the speedo gear. The cobras got a 7 tooth which allowed more options.

You can do the speedcal route or you can swap the speedo drive gear (inside the tail) and a speedo gear.

Speedcal is more expensive but least amount of work if you're mediocre or better at wiring.

From my experience with the speedcal I would get the Dallas if it's still available. The other ones I've used would have an occasional millisecond drop in signal and make cruise control uncomfortable.
