Does anyone happen to know the weight of a stock 1995 SVT Cobra hood? I’m trying to compare the difference between that and a fiberglass hood.
Thanks!

I know the stock 96 Gt is light weight. Ive got 2 that i move around often.

If you are looking for scientific quarter mile times, this is where everything counts, then my best guess is the aftermarket hood is lighter. They typically need hood pins to be secured and not use the hood hinges from the stock hood which guessing could be a good 10...15 pounds. Just some thoughts....

Interesting, 96blak, but I’m really just looking at heat management (ie, cooler under the hood).

Maybe a member or two who have gone to cowl hoods can shed some light?

if that is all you need I have seen some people work some vents into the stock hood that did not look too bad. But just reading about your mishimoto fan we found your problem. spend $50 there and save the rest

Cant give you an exact number but an aftermarket glass hood is definately lighter.

If you are trying to run cooler, unless you want to cut some heat extractors into your stock hood, you won’t be doing much. People remove the side vent and cowl vents, but since those are high pressure zones, it won’t matter if you are moving, only when you are standing still. If this is in relation to your cooling problem, this is not the answer to that.

I bet you could work a pair of these in pretty easy to look cool and help a bit.

and while they are not cheap it will be cheaper than a new hood + paint. The stock hood is easy to cut since it is not metal. Easy physically anyway but now I am not going to tell ya that you will not be puckering a bit when you make that first hole. I remember when I added my aerocatches to my cf hood you want to talk about pucker......
