wmfateam getting his under 16yo son a project car (reference the Post a Pic of your Latest Purchase thread) gave me an idea for a thread. Just hope it hasn’t been done before.

What was your first car? Whether you bought it, it was handed down to you, shared it with siblings or your folks ponied up. Whatever.

I’ll start things off:

I’m the youngest of 3 boys. In 1977 @ age 16, my oldest brother got an orange 1974 Pinto that he subsequently put A60’s on the front staggered with D60’s on the rear. I credit him for opening the world of modifications and aftermarket upgrades up to me. Now…Let’s see who remembers THOSE sizes!

Two years later, my middle brother when he turned 16, bought a used, maroon 1976 Pinto that came with dish mags and therefore was MUCH cooler! LOL
Well, guess who ended up with the maroon Pinto when he muscled up to a 340 Chrysler POS? Got it from him for pocket change (in today’s $$)!! Drove that Junior and Senior year in high school and thought I was pretty hot shit because I had wheels, earned money scooping ice cream at Baskin & Robbin’s (all my friends enjoyed me working there), and was able to take my high school sweetheart out Saturday nights, Homecoming and 2 Proms! Life was simple. And good!!

Being exposed to my brothers’ enthusiasm early on for cars got me started on cars, too. The rest is history!

Haro Nyquist Backtrail got me to school and first job until my Mom got a new car and I was allowed to use the 1991 Ford Econoline "Shaggin Wagon" till I could afford my first car. That thing had a bench rear seat that folded into a bed, 4 captains chairs and a removable poker table that would go between all the chairs. After working the school cafeteria from 15-16 and then Target after that, I bought a 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo. 4 mismatched tires, but she was all mine. I'll see if I can dig up some old fashion pictures of it. Pop up leads are still my favorite.

Got my first car in 1996.
1981 Mustang GL
Black, T-tops, red leather, power windows, manual locks.
Straight 6 (200ci) with a 4 speed. It was originally a demonstration car at the Ford dealer my father worked at.

I wish I still had that car. I'm going to try and find a pic or 2.
Edit: found this pic

Ha that's awesome. I remember back when i first got the car, the saleen wing was the "cool" thing to do. Spent a lot of money putting that on.

And then when i restored the car about 5-6 years ago that was the first thing I took off.

Yeah it was popular for sure. I had an early one on my first car too.
I still think those 94-97 Cobra wheels looked amazing on your car.

I bought it from my older brother for $5ooo in 1999. He owned it for about 5 years. I owned it for 1 night. Took it out on a rainy night, crashed it on the Manhattan Bridge. 27 years later still hear about it at family BBQs

Well, everyone my laugh, but I bought a 1972 Pinto new because I really liked the looks of them before Ford hung those UGLY gigantic bumpers on them. It was so easy to make it look cool with Side pipes. They were made just perfect for them. My 2.0 Engine sounded like a low rumble V8, not that Fart Box noise.
