I have 275/50x17 rear tires and 245/45x17 fronts. I was expecting 17x9 wheels front and 17x10 or 10.5 rears. But, all 4 wheels are stamped 17x9.
I’m looking at some tire/wheel packages that are 17x9 front and 17x10 rears.

I guess my question is this: will the rear tire fit with a 17x10 wheel? Is this a ‘94-‘95 thing?

I like the look of the 50-series rear but mist of the tire/wheel packages I’m looking at have 275/40x17 rear tires. Not sure I’d like that narrower profile tire on the back and the larger gap it would leave between the tire and wheel well.

If you have 275/50 17’s on from and 275/40 17 in the rear the rear tyres will look smaller than the fronts because they are. They have less sidewall, a smaller diameter and circumference than the fronts. If you put 10” rims on the back go for a 305 tyre. If your looking to have the rear tyres fill the wheel well use the 17x9” and add a 1” spacer. You get the look but your tyres can be rotated.

Highland,
First off, just gotta ask(based on how you spelled tyre), are you a fellow Scot?

And secondly, I definitely do not want the out of proportion low profile rear “tyre” look.

Yes, I am a Scot! Born in Kirkcaldy. I live in Long Island, NY at the moment and I have a house on the Isle of Bute. As for my spelling I usually can’t remember which is which so I tend to default to UK and so does my phone.

As for the rear “tyres” I chose 18x9” rims and I’m running 275/35 18 rubber. I considered 18x10” in the back but both the wheels and tyres were a good bit more. I chose the 1” spacer. It gives you the “staggered” look but tour running the same size wheel and rubber all around. The spacers are easy to install (use fresh rotors when you install them) but you do need to trim the wheel studs. All that means is if you want to get rid of the spacers you will need to get new studs.

Thank you, Highland! I’m turning on to the idea of running all 4 same size tyres and for the same reason: rotation. Also like the less costly aspect of it, though it’s not a tremendous difference in the scheme of things.

FWIW, my step-daughter, Skye, is named after The Isle of Skye!

it isn’t a big difference price-wise but not being able to rotate tyres will increase costs over time as well. I just like the fact it is a simpler setup.

Beautiful! You should do your interior with the Isle of Skye tartan. Lol

Ok, so all this being said, and me being 4 IPA’s in to my Friday night(wink, wink)... what’s the maximum combination of front & rear tires in 18” I can run with my Eibach Pro Plus suspension and the 2 shocks on each rear corner(with fenders rolled)???

Seems to me my 275/50x17’s are filling up the wheel wells pretty good and are pretty close to not only the turned under wheel well but the exhaust pipe (inboard) as well???

Basically, I want to fill all 4 corners with as much meat as possible. Low. Mean. And nasty.

Ok, so I imagine the rubber you have does fill up the wheel well fairly well. Part of the reason is you’re running larger rubber than originally came with the car. The original rubber for 17’s on our cars was 245/45. Your sidewall is slightly more than an inch taller than the originals. Unless, the speedometer has been recalibrated, it is off by about 8% (approx. 5 miles higher at 65mph). Nothing wrong with it, just mentioning as a point of reference.

So, assuming you want to keep the same wheel well “fill”, the matching 18” tire setup would be 275/45 18. That would be on9” wide wheels.

I’m currently running 275/35 18 on 8” wide wheels as it matches the original 245/45 17 diameter.

I took another photo of the 315/35/17 on a 17x10.5 wheel.

Oh, perfect, I just 17x10.5 rims. Was trying to decide if 315/35/17 would be the right choice. 5hose pics look perfect.
I don’t remember the wheel offset, these are the ‘03-‘04 Cobra type wheels. I ran the quad shocks for years turned upside down but they did rub in some situations. I just took them off recently. I also had to bang in the inner fender just slightly near the rear.

Thanks, I have new LMR control arms, Steeda springs, eibach sway bars and Koni shocks, so I don’t think I’ll need the quad shocks any more. I bought the American Muscle Bullet rims so they should fit, but it’s nice to see someone who has actually done it.

Highland,
Think I’m going to go with your 4-wheel rotation, same size option and get 265/45x17’s Nitto 555G2’s all around. I know it’s not as aggressive as the offset look, but I kind of like the understated “oh, I’m just a stock Cobra, don’t mind me “ kind of look!
Hehehe....

Also, there’s so many 18” tire/wheel packages out there, I just can’t decide. I vascilate between silver, anthracite, bronze and black rims so much that I’ve finally thrown my hands up and decided to just keep the wheels I have and be done with it!

265 35 18 in front, 285 35 18 in rear with 5/16 spacers. 740DFEE6-B375-4A21-B08C-B2AE2EE70388.jpeg1D84ADE8-BC2A-43B9-ACB1-73061FD82028.jpeg740DFEE6-B375-4A21-B08C-B2AE2EE70388.jpeg 1D84ADE8-BC2A-43B9-ACB1-73061FD82028.jpeg

Ok, my decision has been made. This may disappoint a good many of you, but hear me out and you’ll understand why I’ve decided what I did.

1. As I corrected in an earlier post, it turns out I have four 17x9 wheels, not two 17x9 and two 17x10’s.

2. because my car and style is understated (a “sleeper”) and it’s slow due to low compression in 2 cylinders AND I tend to soft-pedal it most of the time anyways....

I’m going with four 255/45x17 Nitto 555 G2’s. Yes, stock size for that understated look.
