This should be fun. I’m going to buy some sort of vehicle to drive to and from work. My truck currently has 105k and I’m putting between 20-24k miles annually. I’d like to cut that down to under 10k so I can keep the truck long term. My wife gets the next new vehicle and I’m close to paying the truck off.

The Unicorn, if I can keep it together long enough, can pick up some of that slack but it rides like crap. This leaves me with finding a beater car to abuse. I’ve considered everything. I just want something that gets around 25 mpg and is interesting to drive.

I’m going to post up everything I’ve considered until I buy one. I’m limiting myself to $6000 and it will come from my local area. I’ve had good luck buying over the internet but I’m going to view these in person, this round.

You have a list of parts for that new engine, do you have a name of the dude that built it? A new engine is new, right up until that moment its no longer new, when something breaks....

Yes, Dad, I have all of that information. He’s one of the local Subie club guys and they all use the same shop.

Just saying...I've had multiple Audis with over 200 k and still ran great and got 26mpg. oh and multiple vw's with as many miles. Oh yeah i've also had a fox lx that had 265k on original unmolested engine.

i like that BMW wagon. nice looking grocery getter! Oh and yeah have you driven a Subaru? I'm not going to knock the fact that they can be fast, but drive a Subaru or a Japanese car then drive a German....the Germans are just good at making the car feel good and not plastic and rattily.

I've had a VW New beetle and it probably wasn't the best example of German technical prowess. It was one that had the 01M transmission and the "lifetime transmission fluid" that was far from the truth. I won't doubt the later model Audi's feel better and I know the Bavarian Murder Weapon is renoun for it's smooth inline 6.

I'm still shopping and I still haven't ruled out a Skyline GTS25T or GTS-T.

I recommend a basic 5 lug stripped down manual 2005-2015 tacoma. I bought mine last summer for under $6k and love the simplicity of it. Honestly it’s the best vehicle I’ve owned. E9251A24-C945-4F5C-87CB-B25D8F945439.jpeg
