Upgraded the front speakers to 6"x9" with a set of Boston Acoustics.
That probably makes a big difference over the 5X7's.

It does but needs more power and some sound deadening behind it to really sound good. I just so happen to have an /////Alpine 4-channel amp just languishing away in a box perfect for that role.
I've never tried 6X9's in my 96 and I have swapped speakers a dozen times over the years. I usually have a 6 1/2 component set in the doors.

I have an Infinity 6.5 component set also.. Thinking about making them rear deck speakers in a plate.

So... I am losing fuel after I fill up and I'm not crazy. Well, at least in this case. Just thought 30ish miles for a 1/4 tank was kinda fast for a bone stock NPI Shitbox.

Idk, I used 5-diode bulbs? Perhaps you have a bulb with the polarity reversed?
That's how my eBay LEDs look!
