Widest tire that can fit on stock 98 cobra rims

Does anyone know the widest tire you can fit on stock rims for a 1998 Cobra? It’s time for new tires and would love to fit 315’s in the back.

295 is even a stretch on factory wheels. 285 is as far as I’d go. I’m running a 18x10 with 295’s and they sit just square.

Stock wheels? I believe 245/45r17 was the stock size and you could probably go with 265’s but they’d be bulged out.

OP - the stock wheels will take a 255/45/17 if you can find a tire in that size. They were a stock size on the 94 and 95 Cobras. Continental makes the Extremecontact DWS in that size, which are on my 97 Cobra right now.

My 94 has 275x 17" on the front on 9" rims and 315x 17" on the back...lowered 1.5" I slightly kiss the front tires on a full lock turn but not an issue. I flipped the quad shocks in back for clearance I guess I "am that guy!"

Just curious, but what's that guy? Are you referring to the guys running a bulged tire on a stock width rim or the guys that are running wide rims and tires in the back?

True my rims are not stock....I forgot that part. My son runs 275's on an 8" stock Mach I rim all 4 wheels & it looks normal...perfect in fact.

I think it depends on the tire you run. I ran 275 Nitto 555R's on stock 01 Cobra rims and never had an issue. Nittos are known to run narrow. At least that model. The G2's seem to run wide.

Well to let you guys know, when you roll the fenders and beat the trunk side walls in a little, you can 18x10.5 wheels with 345/35/18
