Weather looks to be breaking up, so I’ll get under tomorrow and check out the tag on the tranny to see what I have.

That is a casting number and unfortunately doesn't tell you what gearset is in the trans. In order to know the gearset, you NEED to get the numbers off the metal tag that is on one of the bolts that holds the back half of the case to the front half. Here is a picture from a Tremec T56, I could not find one from a TKX, but all Tremec Transmissions have one of these. Find it and post a pic.

If you are only interested in lowering RPM across the board, do as others here have suggested and use the Tremec calculator. If you are able to drive the car, take it out for a drive, in 5th at 2000 RPM check the speed and match it up using the calculator.

Mines part number 17765 that’s the 2.87 first gear with .68 overdrive . I searched the 17265 but came back with nothing I was looking for .

Mr Horsepower,
I went to the Tremec online calculator and apparently need to select WHICH transmission I have before it will calculate. I’ll be out of town for a few days (holiday family obligations) but will check rpm’s at speed as Mr Horsepower suggested. Thank you also for the photo locator for the tab. Will go back under upon return.

Musturd,
I got an “unable to find” with the stamped number. I had a feeling that was NOT the number I was ultimately looking for :-(

Yea it’s not the right number . Mine was on a tag like horsepower mentioned . I also knew the gear set I ordered in my tkx .

I, unfortunately, wasn’t asked so therefore didn’t know there were different gear sets available when the shop ordered it for me. They never made me aware of options and never discussed them with me. I guess I will have to wait and see what the tag reveals.

Couldn’t resist, so I went under but couldn’t find a tag on any bolt I could see or get to.
I did reach over the top and felt a loose bolt or plug of some kind. Took a blind shot photo and am wondering what this is and should it be loose? Maybe it’s set to a certain torque??

If you’re talking about the piece that’s pointing upward, that’s a vent and will wiggle and move around. You should be good there.

There’s only a few gear sets for these so it’s pretty straight forward . Here’s the next gear set . You can drive your car and see how close this matches to yours IMG_4324.png

Look at post #10 those are the current Ford TKX part numbers.
Sounds like he will have an easier time just going for a drive at 2000rpm in whatever gear of choice to figure out what trans part number he has . I posted all 3 models at 2000rpm with 3.55 gears and a 26” tall tire .

No problem . Figured that might be easier than jacking the car back up and crawling back under it .
