Also when does the "clunk" occur? When you start to release the clutch? Or is it when you actually SLIP the shifter into first gear? If its when you slip it it, you porbably need to look into a clutch adjustment....I.e. its not disengaging completely and when you put it in gear, it shocks the driveshaft for a second.
