To answer your main question yes stock t-body is fine... Will it cure your surging idle IDK. If you haven done a base idle reset that would be the first on the list.. http://sbftech.com/index.php/topic,1031.0.html Second the PP t body is known for its poor quality that is why you've heard about sanding and drilling. Usually a burr on the casting or blade will let it hang up here and there. Third verify you TPS is good and voltage is within spec. Fourth make positively sure there's no vacuum leaks. Fifth check MAF signal wiring resistance ...... Pin D on the MAF and pin 50 on the computer (dark blue/orange wire) should be less than 2 ohms. Pin C on the MAF and pin 9 on the computer (tan/light blue wire) should be less than 2 ohms There should be a minimum of 10K ohms between either pin C or D on the MAF and ground you can also try clocking the meter if your running a CIA, it sometimes helps. sixth make sure your ECT and ACT sensors are aren't all gunked up. clean if needed Seventh make sure you pcv is functioning properly. If all fails break down and spend the money on a tune.
