Message: <blockquote data-quote="kawasakikidd" data-source="post: 416830" data-attributes="member: 10588"><p>are you running 93 octane gas?i will tell you i had det. problems with my 5.0 so i made sure i was set at 10 degree timing. i also had the upper intake cleaned with the daytona machine at marshall mize ford dealer in chattanooga tn. it is hooked up to run thru and bust up the carbon on the tops of your pistons along with cleaning the upper intake.i still had a little det. when i hammered down on it off idle.i also got rid of the cat converters.thinking it might be stopped up a little no codes but thinking back pressure of exhaust was causing the engine to run a little hot on the top end.still would ping a little.so after opening up the exhaust, cleaning the upper intake,tuning it up,making sure im running good 93 octane,it still pinged.so i went ahead and put in the 3.73 gears and after i did the pinging went away when i punched it or when i hammered on it off from an idle.the only thing we could think it was is that the 2.73 stock gearing was way to tall for the small 114000 mile motor.i dont know but i run 14 degree timing now no problems at all. runs killer that has been 2 years ago.i hope this gives you some ideal on what to try. good luck bud</p></blockquote><p></p>
