Tarheel Sports Car Club has announced their 2026 Autocross Event Schedule! If you want to see how well your Mustang handles, or how capable you are behind the steering wheel, now is the perfect time to give autocross a try. Autocross events are extremely safe, relatively inexpensive performance driving competitions that focus on car control. It’s NOT wheel-to-wheel racing. You drive through a course made up of traffic cones and compare your time to other drivers in your class. There are classes for cars that are mostly stock & cars that are heavily modified. You do not need to have a heavily modified Mustang to start autocrossing. If that sounds pretty simple, that’s because it (kind of) is… Autocross is easy to learn, but hard to master. And getting better, especially when you’re driving the Mustang you love, is a ton of fun! THSCC is a very novice-friendly club. On average, they get 35+ novices at every event. They have dedicated instructors to help people learn autocross fundamentals. More & more Mustangs are showing up at these events, and you’ll usually find a few veteran Mustang autocrossers who are always willing to help novices. THSCC holds events at a variety of venues: Southern National Motorsports Park in Lucama, NC is a small site that features technical courses laid out on the flat infield of a banked oval track. Rockingham Speedway’s “Little Rock” in Richmond County, NC is an oval track with banking and a crossover. NCCAR in Garysburg, NC is a twisty 2-mile road course that allows for long, fast courses. THSCC has a Novice School scheduled on 4/18. Attending a Novice School is a fantastic way to get acquainted with autocross. You’ll learn performance driving fundamentals from several instructors & you can often choose to have an instructor drive your car to show you what it can do out on course. THSCC is a members-only club. Membership costs $23 (plus a $2 booking fee). Event prices vary based on the venue (but prices are pretty reasonable). You can find more information about the club here: www.thscc.com You can become a member & register for events here: www.motorsportreg.com And, if you’re interested in autocross but you want to do more research before you make the leap, I’ve made over 100 instructional videos to help people autocrossing 79-04 Mustangs improve their cars and their driving skills. You can find them here: https://www.youtube.com/@warhorseracing/videos I’m always happy to answer any questions you have about autocrossing your Mustang!
