There is no extra maintenance costs and you actually save money on brakes because they will not need to be changed until upwards of 100k miles. The Hybrid System is covered with a 8 yr 100k warranty and there has never been a failure with that system in a non commercial use car. Lots of Internet Myths spread over the years by competitors and people who just hate Hybrids.
