Ok....Sorry, I had diesels on the mind when I typed that... WITH A GAS MOTOR, It goes BOTH ways.... PEAK EGT usually occurs at 14.7:1 A/F Ratio or Stoich...meaning the "perfect ratio" to burn off all fuel...but this ratio is too lean and unstable in a gas motor so you obviously to richer. This cools down the EGTs to a point but going WAY fat is going to pick them back up...b/c then you begin to burn raw fuel in the headers. Going LEANER than 15:1 will cool them down b/c you have an abundance of air and little fuel so a shortened burn time is the result, generating less heat and power. If the car spits and pops in the top end and misses, you could be starving for fuel. Just so you don't think I'm yanking you around....read this... http://www.sdsefi.com/techegt.htm honestly, I don't think you're running pig rich. You might be right there at the High EGT lean point OR you timing is completely screwed up. Make SURE you're at 10 degrees ADVANCED and NOT 10 degrees RETARDED...TRUST ME, I've done that and had very similar results to what you described. As for a chip, no you don't HAVE to have a chip to run bigger injectors but running EVERYTHING you have and NOT getting it tune isn't exactly the best route to take. There is alot of power and peace of mind to be had from a dyno tune...knowing the car is RIGHT.
