I keep my engine bay spotless and the battery after one year has not left one mess at all, I know its because of the dry cell technology but even when the battery sits in the bearing heat it doesnt get weaker. I have also not cleaned any of the terminals yet. Just another nice tip is the Optima has top and bottom post mounts so what I did was hook all the regular car stuff to the top post and then mount all the stereo equipment to the side post and it works perfect.Good Luck, the Optima is the way to go hands down.
