He went to the fox body because of it's size, and rigidity. Those cars have a very small amount of frontal area, so they push a little smaller hole in the air. Plus, Big Red was just getting a little old. It's got 8 years of nothing but hard passes on it, and with all of the cutting, and updating, and everything, the car had become heavy and outdated, so John felt that a new car was in order. Not to mention fox bodies are cheaper and easier to come by then another new-edge, or an '05 up car (which I feel don't really make good race cars anyway.) But yeah, that's why the switch. Plus there's a lot of safety stuff and power and speed innovation in this car.
