Sounds like you need to find a local A/T guy that is trustworthy. Ask around. I wouldn't just show up at a shop and take my chances. You might also want to think about a manual trans swap. I have gotten prices around $1100 for a used one with all of the extra stuff needed, 1500 with a rebuilt m/t and the sky is the limit after that. spooling2valve has a m/t for sale you might pm him.
