He's got a 347 stroker and has had a pretty good rocker tick the entire time he's had the car. he doesnt drive it often enough for it to bother him but as of now he wanted to start working on it and getting it tuned finally so we decided to readjust the rockers. the process that i used on my car and i assumed would carry over to his car goes as follows:Rotate crank until cyl 1 exhaust valve just starts to open. then adjust the intake rocker to zero lash, turn back the allen head 1/4 turn, and tighten the entire nut 1/4 turn to lock it into place. Then do the exhaust valve when the intake valve just beings to close after opening. After buttoning up for the last time, there was still so much rocker noise than there was before. So we took it apart again and tightened them to 1/2 of a turn. Is it possible that it could take 3/4 of a turn???Here's the one thing that threw us off though.....we found a sheet in all of his old paper work on the car, that shows how to adjust the rockers and in there it said to adjust the exhaust valve just as the intake valve starts to open. The issue with that is as the intake valve starts to open, the exhaust valve is still closing?? Is it possible that these instructions are put in this way to account for preload in the lifters? When i get back over there i'm going to follow it to the instructions on the sheet but I'm just a little bit confused on why this procedure is so different than what I have been doing before.</blockquote>
