If your auto you will need a neutral balanced flexplate (any year supercoupe will do) and a neutral balanced harmonic balancer (you can get one from a 4.2 out of the truck/van I believe the years are 94-96 but dont quote me on that particular number) All in all if you can find a reasonably priced running supercoupe engine (500-600) the tune will run you 479. the fuel pump another 100-145, flexplate and harmonic balancer 200-550 (depending on what you end up going with the guys over at sccoa SWEAR by the bhj Harmonic balancer I believe, a damn good one but a bit pricy) then Lets say an additional 200 for the new master cyl. and custom hoses. Add to that another 200 for a complete rebuild kit for the engine (bearings, gaskets the whole shebang) and your at what 1679. on the lowest scale and up to 2176. on the high side. Also with any project you wanna add an additional 20% for unforseen misc. items. I personally would NEVER put a used engine in a car w/out tearing it down, inspecting it and having the block cleaned, magnafluxed and any issues taken care of BEFORE it gets installed in a car and blows up on ya.
To give you a brief synopsys of what you'll find over at those two forums: You can install the supercoupe motor in place of your 98 3.8, there will be a few fitment issues that are discussed in both forums such as; brake lines from the master cyl. having to be bent out of the way of the intercooler pipe (fixable if you buy a 94/95 ranger master cyl. as the brake lines protrude from the opposite side), custom throttle cable bracket (must fab or have fabbed), custom coolant lines (supercoupe ac is the same as the mustang but mounted upside down) Thats the basics that need to be considered right off the bat. YOU MUST DO THE MODIFICATIONS LISTED ABOVE IF YOU PLAN ON KEEPING AC, CRUISE, AND DONT BREAK YOUR BRAKE LINES. Also you will need to upgrade your fuel system, I cannot remember if you have the returnless fuel line or not but if so you will need the 310lph focus pump (125-145 depending on where you look) or the 255lph walboro pump (100-130 again depending on where you look) You will need a good tune, I reccommend Justin @ vmp www.vmptuning.com I believe is his website. This is a doable project but its not something that you will do over night. Another thing to look at is are you auto or manual.
