If the contact patch is much wider than the wheel, then tie sidewalls begin to bulge. When that happens, the contact patch tends to bow out, and you end up having less contact patch on the floor than you paid for. A 315 on a 9 inch wheel is not much more effecting than a 275 on a nine inch wheel, but you end up paying a lot more for the wider tire, and you have more rotational weight, because the tire is heavier.</p></blockquote><p></p>
