I m in the market for a set of staggered 18" replica wheels 18 x 10 rear 18 x 9 in front. I m thinking I want a 255 40 18 in the front and 295 35 18 in rear or if I can put a 305 wheel in there, and if so would I have to roll the fenders for the 305 and 295 size in rear ? is there a big difference from a 305 and 295 ? and what tires for staggered wheels have you heard are the best ?? I m looking into the nitto invos bc you can rotate the wheels from side to side, are there any new better tires that came out for 2013 for staggered wheels ? thanks again for any info..

NT555's

go 255/40/18 and then 315/35/18. Most common setup I've seen. 295 -> 305 is a 10mm difference. You won't see any difference to the naked eye. You don't need to roll your fenders either.

I think your 255/40 and 295/35 tires will fit the best and the sidewall will also look even front to rear. I have 265/35 and 295/35 and you can tell the rear tires are a little taller. If you do 255/40 and 315/30 the rear tires will be shorter height and I don't think that's a good look. But yes people have pushed 315s onto 10" wheels.

295s required no modification for with my car (except the pass side tailpipe) but I did remove the quad shocks ahead of time so I don't know if those would have been in the way. Some people say they fit 315s with no modding, some people say it requires a little massaging.

Wtff, I hope these 315's I'm getting don't rub.

Onyx.
Side wall of 255/40 would be 102mm, side wall of 315/35 is 110. :)

Unless I'm figuring this out in a retarded fashion haha

Doh! He's got 18's though. Yea, you might rub with the 315, sorry I didn't notice that. That's why I'm thinking I'll be ok with the 17's

I'm confused. How is a bigger tire shorter? Did you mean 295/40 will fit best?

I have 315s but it's a 2004 with H&R super sports and haven't had any trouble with them

shit, i made a mistake. it was supposed to be 315/30, 315/35 is gonna be a hella tall tire, my mistake. I would not recommend 315/35, that will probably cause even more fitment problems.

and technically if you stick to the same overall tire diameter it shouldn't matter whether you have 17s or 18s. the width is the width.

it comes down to the width vs the sidewall number, which is a percentage. So basically when you increase the width, say 295 to 315, you need to reduce the sidewall size in order to keep the tire the same overall height.

that's why the 295/35 tire is actually taller than the 315/30. same goes for 255/40 being taller than 265/35. sorry about the previous confusion, its still early lol.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't wrong haha.

But yes, 315/35/18 would be insane. 315/35/17 is normal.

You take the width, and multiply it by the number in the middle as a percentage. Like I did earlier.

315/35 = 315 width x .35 sidewall = 110

It depends on several things.

Offset of the rim being #1 when it comes to rubbing issues.
Brand of tire. (Remember not all companies stay true to the number on the side. A 305 Nitto is narrower than a 295 BFG)
Amount of drop.
Exhaust pipe routing and quad shock.

On 18x9 18x10 many run a 265/35 and 295/35 combo to get a little more sidewall in back. I went from that to a 255/35 285/35 set up now. More space.

Also remember more width doesn't mean more traction/better performance. You have to look at contact patch in relation to weight and power of the car. You also need to look at the impact of the side wall height (and flex) on the translation of power to the ground.

similar to what lilroush touched on there - theres a point (thats different with every car) that you go from "good contact" to "needing to much to turn over"

I currently run Cont Extreme Contact DW. Prior to that I have run BFG KD and BFG KDW. All could be swapped.

Most 'good' performance tires you can have mounted left or right side these days to get even wear if you want to swap back and forth. The correct camber for street use will also even it out so you don't worry about odd wear from side to side.

295/35/18 taller than 315/35/18?????????? That is how I read it and why I said I was confused on bigger tire being shorter. Since 295/35/18 taller than 315/30/18 was meant to be typed it now makes sense.

any directional tire isn't going to be rotated side to side without having the tire dismounted and remounted on the opposite rim, just look for a non-directional tire. i'm afraid in the 18" size there aren't many.
