98 Gt Tailpipes

I want to polish my tailpipes with some sandpaper and go up in increments up to 2000 grit. This may be a dumb question but, the stock tailpipes on a 98 gt are stainless steel right? This is my first time doing this, and I don't want to screw it up.

You wont screw it up. Your though process is on the right track. Its exactly what I did. Turned out great.
