with the filter missing you potentially sucked up some crap in the intake to your a/f mixture. your o2 sensor tripped the code. whichever bank detected the affected miss you may have fouled plugs. i recommend getting a quality filter and change spark plugs. timing is out of the picture unless some mod work was done instantaneously in the rain. if you have a tuner or wideband you could also measure the stoichness in the o2 sensor.

Yeah he totally beat me to it, That sounds exactly like what happened , i think i have a k/n in the garage that i can ship to you, if you did that and cleaned the maf at the same time i bet it would run like new.

My tuner told me they also pull timing when AIT gets really high.

Either way, pull those plugs and change them, cheap easy good maintenance (lucky modular guys)

As already stated check for liquid, etc. How long did you drive it without a filter? If you are saying the problem keeps occuring is the check engine light, then change the o2 sensors. They probably haven't been done yet, and at 100k miles it not a bad idea. Get motor craft ones. I got bosch ones and they suck. When i go back to the dyno I am buying motorcraft.

I don't imagine you encountered anything you won't be able to fix. Our cars are pretty easy to work on.

the problem has stopped at this point, i think it was the mass air flow sensor after all. it was pretty dirty. the service engine light isnt on. D3VST8R96GT and I did notice a bit of a miss at around 1900 rpms. I ordered the motorcraft plugs from american muscle a few days ago, so i should have them installed by the end of next week and black stang should run like a rand new car.

got the plugs in. runs better, better mileage too. the miss is still there, there was one coil that the boot kept slipping off when we were working with it. maybe that needs is the problem. So i guess that is the next step.
