2 oil drain plug ?

Change the oil today on the 5.0, first of all the stupid ford design, make too big oil filter, hard to get in and out tight space, i wish we have a small version oil filter.

anyway i try drain oil and saw 1 flat drain plug next to tranmission, and other plug is right under the underdrive pulley. is this normail, I uncrew the one next to tranmission and drain oil out. what the other plug for ?

They are both drain plugs, it's a dual sump design. The one underneath the CRANK pulley doesn't hold much, but you need to drain that one and the one by the tranny. FYI, if you think that oil filter is bad, don't change oil on a 1998-2003 f150...

Drain them both as stated. Also if you want a more convenient way to change the filter and better oil temperature control source an Explorer oil cooler. It is a liquid cooled design that runs from the engines coolant. Not that hard to mount up and puts the filter in the space in front of the accessories so it is easy to take on and off.

Drain the one by the pulley 1st then work your way back second to the 2nd plug.

The filter just tilt it and it will slide against the flimsy plastic piece with no problem

Also make sure your using 10w 30w oil

When i went from my 97 GT 4.6L to my 5.0L i was still using 5w 20w on my 5.0 L GT for about 3 oil changes before i found out it needed 10w 30.

The P.O. of my stang had a small oil filter instead of the stock one. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable running a small one, but if you want the number for it I can get it sometime in the next day or two.

please do. btw I saw a small leak on filter neck, I think it happent to the old one i take out also. by look at old oil stain at bottem of oil filter. I tight in the new filter pretty good and still see little oil sip out on filter neck.

btw went to walmart and pick up 10w30 quaker state high miles it say on bottle good for old high mile engine, and it have extra zinc or zddp or something. I this car is my summer project, fix as I go, and some time driving only on sunday. I wonder how often i change oil ?

thats a tricky task and i have a 2004.
