What would be causing my second gear to grind on me, Only when the car is cold?

this only happens when the car is cold if i try to really shift into 2nd fast. if i shift in normal it doesnt make any noise. as soon as the car warms up a bit after some driving, it doenst grind at all.

any ideas? keep in mind i just had the sychro's fixed.

Thanks

My '97 did this when cold, solution was simply to be gentle until it warmed up. These T45's can get really bitchy when they're cold, new or old.

just gently run the trans through the gears when you 1st get in before you start the car. no idea why this works but it helped in the past.
there's also a redline fluid heavy duty fluid that seems to be a bandaid for this.
really sounds like they didn't fix the synchro's properly or you might have a slightly bent shift fork.

Cold weather can cause issues with shifting . Simply letting it warm up helps a bunch as well as installing new non synthetic AFT in it .

its the cold weather... mine does it 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 when its cold... NEVER did it in the summer... my suggestion: dont drive it in winter. When you drive it in winter, let the motor warm up, and then drive around the block in first gear. (not at like.... 4K RPM or anything, just 1500-2000 to help warm the tranny and diffy as well.) then go on your merry way. It should perform better, i know mine does.

the fluid isnt at its best temperature at cold. it has to warm up to expand. its grinding cause its thin and almost metal to metal contact. using a different viscosity fluid or letting it warm up will eliminate the issue. other issues is worn trans.

Mine does it too, But then again it also grinds fifth and reverse when its 80 degrees out. WOO for a new tranny.
