96 cassette radio compatibility?

I have a 96 with a standard cassette radio and CD player. The audio button doesn’t work to switch to radio, it just stays on cassette. I want to keep it oem. Will radios from different model car or trucks plug right in? I have a 95 ranger with the same radio. Also can I reset it or somehow get it to switch to radio? I appreciate any help

LMK if you need a cassette/radio unit, I might have a spare one.

does it keep playing the tape or is there just no sound? If it keeps playing then it sounds like the button might be bad, if it there is no sound from the radio it could just be a bad antenna.

It's sitting in storage. I'll be a few days before I can get to it.

Yea the audio button won’t switch over to radio, and I only have one cd and it’s Lynrd Skynrd lol. I mean I love skynrd but if I have to listen to gimme three steps one more time, I’m gonna go crazy.

Does anybody know if any other Ford models interchange?
I can't name specific models but yes they used the same general radio in almost all the models then except for the taurus/escort with the oval radio. The are differences in the wiring and output depending on amps or not but just be sure the harness in the car will match the radio and you should be ok.

I installed a CD unit from a '99 SVT Contour in my' 95,but don't recall if the wiring is the same. I needed it only for the clock. However, yes, many Ford vehicles used the same scheme.

Do you still have the radio with cassette for the mustang? If you do, I might be interested in it. I would just have to see the connectors to make sure it’s the same as the car connectors.

Yes, I do. I'll get out to the storage unit and take some pics. They should be up by tomorrow.

I have two. Both could use a good cleaning of the fronts. I tested the bottom one a while back and the radio worked but the cassette didn't. Can't say about the top one. Both have identical sockets on the back right side, only difference on the left side is which direction the tab for the ground goes. LMK if you want me to wipe down the upper unit and see how good I can get it to look. radio front.jpgradio rear.jpgradios side.jpg

Thanks for the info. However, the cable harness that in my car would not fit this configuration. I bought one of these online about two weeks ago and cannot find a cable that I can adapt to my car.
