A few unrelated questions

So it's probably best if I just number these:

1. What is the deal with the 94-95 GT having different belt sizes that are very similar? It seems difficult to determine whether or not I need the 105" belt, or the 106" belt. Chatbot says it has something to do with having a dealer installed AC system. Not sure if mine has that, but I did notice my AC compressor has donkey kong on it. No joke it's there. I never knew that dealer installed AC was a thing.

2. Would it be cheaper to buy a 400+ horsepower long block 302 from a reputable engine builder, or cheaper to take mine out and build that one up? I sort of looks like the price would be about the same.

3. What all would you leave off of the engine once you reinstalled it? I guess all the emissions stuff would go, because my state did away with it. I think the car was too old for it before that anyway, I can't remember.

4. Is there electric power steering for these cars? But maybe that would kill the steering feel.

1. Im not versed enough with the pushrod sn95, but pull your belt off and measure it to confirm actual length. I get your question tho. One would think solid info of an old platform would be out there. Have you tried going directly to the part stores and have them look up the belt part number. Alot of times their info is on par.

2. Yes it would be cheaper to purchase a cookie cutter complete engine with warranty and a good guarantee of horsepower potential, but only from a known forsure ford pushrod engine builder.

3. Again im not 100% about the stock ecu management, but keep in mind it is 30yrs old. That includes the wiring harness, plastic plug connectors. Crap deteriorates with age and what im finding as of late, even if the car has sat in a temp controlled garage for 8yrs, crap deteriorates.

4. There are a few here that have adapted a volvo electric power steering pump to there mustangs with great results and success. I believe under normal, non demanding driving conditions like circuite track racing, the electric pump worked great. Also they installed it in an area within the fender that was out of site.

I always wanted to know how much power you could free up from the stock engine, if they only thing it was turning was the alternator. Have everything else be electric, and upgrade the alternator to one of those super efficient types.

But as for engine replacement, I guess the stock engine would be needed as a parts donor. I see what you mean about getting a brand new wiring harness though, and I would certainly do that. Not sure what to do with the remains of the old engine though, when it's all over. I guess just spray that oil all over it and put it in a plastic bag somewhere. In case the new engine dies outside of warranty.

Next question!

Is it worth it to "upgrade" to a Tremec T-56 manual transmission? If we look at the gear ratios of that transmission and the T-5 that comes in the mustang, would be any benefit to have the 6th gear?

Keep the old fashioned belt driven power steering pump. It’s not worth the extra couple of horsepower to drop the coin for an electric pump and controller.

Another thing not mentioned is the tune. It doesn’t really matter what’s under the hood if it isn’t tuned correctly.

The only way to actually go fast is to do some actual engine work. Bolt on mods help, but not much, and some of them cost a little more than they should (Cobra intake, I’m looking at you).

I wouldn’t bother doing what you are planning on doing with the accessory drive. Just get yourself some UD pullies and call it until you are at the point that an electric water pump and all that is your only option for more power.

As for the belts, I don’t know what state your car is in, but if it is drivable, drive down to the parts store and just keep trying belts until one fits. That’s what I did, and yes, I felt like a superhero with everyone looking at me, dumbfounded I was not doing that at home :)

Sounds like a good idea, cutting out multiple trips. This time I cut my worn out belt off and measured it. It seemed to be 105.5 inches long. Then I looked at the model number which was still on the belt, and it said that the belt is 105 and 5/8 inches long. So I ordered one that length, we'll see what happens.

The model number tells you the length which was "Gates K061058". Somehow, you're supposed to glean that the "1058" means it's 105 and 5/8" long. Riiight...

Flat idler pulley should be fine, my original one was flat with no edges or ribs.

The Ai had me laughing on my next question. It's answer was:

hahaha

But it did say it would last anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes. But what if that's all you need to win a race?

His car was in north Dakota
He had an aftermarket installed

This is a reason why you see engine belts with or without ac

That's what raised the question for me, I was trying to figure out what belt I needed. Kept running into "No AC, with factory AC, or with dealer installed AC"

I guess mine had factory AC because the 105 and 5/8" belt fits fine.
