I understand the thinking that newer seems better, but that's not the case. Newer units are built lighter for saving material and weight. The AOD' was released around 1978 or '9 and was used all the way through '04. I used to rebuild all kinds of Transmissions, and when Ford introduced the 'AOD-E' it became even better, being it was Electronic Shift, getting away from the Cable Shift. If you go used, they should allow you to take off the Pan, so you can check for ANY Metal or Clutch Material and turn the Torque Converter over to see if ANY Metal flows out of it.</p></blockquote><p></p>
