i think it's a hyperchip or hyper tech. it's just a chip and they guy who came to buy some parts off my camaro today was selling one from his 96 mustang gt he said he would sell it to me for $30.

idk if it's a good deal or not because i don't even know how to hook it up or if you tune it or what :santa_undecided:

give me some insight because I have no clue, he also offered me some cams for $50 that added "50hp to the wheels" a stock midpipe with a magnaflow axle back but idk i don't really want to dig into my motor since i don't have a car in the meantime and I'd want to do valves/springs/lifters a port job and a new intake when i do that and i don't really want the exhaust

I think you can get a predator for the 98's but don't quote me on that.

A chip pretty much marries you to your tuner or to a tuner in general if you ever want to change the tune you have to go back to them and that gets pricey. So your best bet would be save up for a tuner or if you have a lap top buy a tuning program and learn to use it.

As for the cams I would stay away from those unless you really trust the guy.

I would stay away from the deal. The chip is cheap but ytou don't knopw what kind of tune is programmed into it. IMO you would be better off going to get a tune.

I don't like the idea of used cams. Some things you are just better off getting new.

i agree with this. that chip is set-up to someone elses mods, not yours. you would be better off getting your own chip burned. i think putting that chip in your car wouldnt benefit anything

I've personally seen hypertech lose power on the Dyno. We had my friend's bolt on 95 Z28 on the dynapack, while using 91 octane (california, what can you do). First he made a stock tune pass and he ended up dynoing 265whp. Then we flashed the hypertech power programmer, and did another pull. The car put down 248whp. I could not believe it. We did another pull. Again, the car put down 246whp. There was a noticable detonation up top in the rpm range. We took all of the Hypertech stuff off, and made a few more passes on the Dynapack. The car went back to making 265whp.

I say just get a tune. If you want a programmer, you can't go wrong with SCT!
i agree with aaron completley.

I had 2 SCT tunes at once on KB. One for Daily, one for Track with a flip of the switch and some race gas it was on.

I have a Hypertech on my Hemi, good stuff big difference but thats really all i got as far as choices.

dont mean to highjack but i got a question. lol. im planning on getting an xcal 3 this week.
will i see a decent improvement in performance due to the current mods i have? im not
expecting a miracle, but 10rwhp would be nice. lol. mainly i wanna get it to take advantage
of my PI intake and o/r x. and of course the speed limiter, i am one of the unfortunate ones
limited to 120. lol. (16 in wheels stock FTL)

You should see a decent improvement. 10 to the wheels, I don't know. I've never used an Xcal. So I can't tell you about something I don't have experience with but from what I've read and heard you should notice a difference as well as the speed limiter. I'd try a search, maybe someone has a thread with some more info. and I'm sure someone will chime in that has actually experience with the Xcal :santa_afro:
