As with anything, I am pleased but I have my gripes:

1. on the corner lenses, the rubber trim around the edges (weatherstrip?) cracked and peeled off within 2 months
2. the headlights flicker once about every 30 minutes and both sides randomly go out once a week (wiggle the fuse on the wiring harness, and it's back)
3. the HIDs interfere with radio reception - I only get my strongest station. It works fine with no headlights on, or just the parking lights on, but the minute you pull the button out for headlights, static on everything but 94.5FM. Tried turning just one side on. No dice. Tried grounding the HIDs better. No dice. Tried getting a better antenna - nothing. I have isolated the problem to either the HID kit itself or the fact that I'm running so much wire (stock wiring harness into adapter harness into HID harness is about 30 feet). I'm going to try a different brand HID kit.

But for the price I paid, about $200, I can't gripe that much. They look alright in the daytime, and are insanely better than what was in there at night, and don't seem to bother the other drivers at all. I got a set of halo one piece black housing headlights as a partial trade for doing some work on a mustang, so I'm going to take my old maculloch 4300K HID kit out of the Probe and put it in with those headlamps and see what's what. I paid almost $250 for that kit back in the day when HIDs were 'rare.'

that sounds like a horrible quality kit.

I'm not ready to condemn it just yet, but pretty damn close. I think the problem is that the HID ballasts emit a frequency, and they're not shielded properly. However, I bought this specific guy's kit on the reference of many mustang guys (actually off a reference off this site with a couple people concurring), so I'm not totally sure. the only thing I'm running different than all those other people is the harness in between the HIDs and the stock harness. I'm not sure I'm not trying to draw too much amperage over too great a distance (as distance increases, resistance increases).

I think when i get around to doing my lights( probably before summer), Im going to use my stock headlamps. I'll just polish the lenses (works really good), tint them, and use the GE night hawk bulbs. I cant find a good aftermarket headlamp that fits my taiste.

but ya you can run them with stock/smoked lights, but the light will more than likly blind everyone on the road coming your way or people infront of you looking into the rear view mirror. Also, cops can pull you over and people will flash there high beams all night @ you lol :xmas-smiley-022: Just try it and aim them low and see your results.. might be good

I just sold my headlights like the yellow stang showned above, so now i have the right corners on there. Heres my projectors

i think twista means that the stock/smoked light housings will be very bright because it scatters the light more? IDK
just a guess. Its definatly worth getting a decent set of projector housings because it will do exactly as the name says; project the light better. Make sure that if you do get projectors that you choose the right ones because theres alot of garbage ones out there...

Several companies make glare sheilds to save you from having to buy ugly projectors. They seem to be alright. The cutoff on the lights isn't as crisp and clean as it is with projectors however.

well I am curently running a 12000K kit with the cobra smoked headlights and they are 10 times brighter than the stock halogens! and they dont need a glare shield! the "glare" is what widens your vision span! When you go to buy your kit, just remember the lower the tempreture of the bulb, the brighter the light! 4300K being the brightest (white)! 14000K being the least (purple)!

Thanks!! I never really knew that number meant the temp. It is making sense now though!

when they refer to a glare sheild, that usaully only applies to the kits that have both high and low beams! most kits that you will find are low beams only! but trust me, you wont need high beams! i love mine and like i said i have the (10000K-12000k) blue to dark blue bulbs and no-one really brights me! everyonce in a while you will get and occasional ass but other than that, make sure that the kit you purchase says (car) cause some of them are motorcycle kits. The good kits require no splicing just plug and play! ebay is where i purchased mine just watch your sellers and there feedback and you will have no problem! good luck!

parts list:

2 bulbs
2 ballasts
2 wiring harnesses

Speaking of HIDs with high and low beams, i read something that said it's the same light just aimed differently, does anyone know if this is true? I was hoping the brights were actually more light.

they do have the same amount of light but that is where the glare shield comes into play, the glare shield is located above the bright buld and basically refracts the light from the top of the bulb out so its a little bit brighter but not alot!

Just trying to figure out if the dual beam HIDs are worth it, I don't like the idea of not having high beams when I want them.

From the HID lows only setups Ive seen, nearly all of them have had halogen (stock bulbs) for highs.

just search for the high/low kits and they will come up but seriously I dont think its worth having the highs, not enough results for the extra money! my .02 though!

how can that be if the stock setup uses one bulb? I can see that with projectors because then there are 2 bulbs per side.
