I'm going to be ordering a magnapack catback soon. I have a couple questions. Do you guys trust the supplied clamps to seal up enough or weld what you can or what do you do? Also, with a '00 GT do you have to cut the stock CB up to get it off? Thats what i hear :angel4: And, with an aftermarket(shitty pypes x pipe) and aftermarket catback with the 'pontiac' ball exhaust leak more than likely be solved?

i wouldnt use clamps, i just like the peace of mind of having a welded connection.

yes, your catback needs cut after the mufflers (before it goes over the axle) to be removed.

Myself and a bunch of others use the clamps and they hold just fine, just make sure the allen heads and clamp on the tips are tight as I have heard of them coming loose

It is possible to remove the tails without cutting but it will be worlds easier to just make the single cut before the axle on each one. This way you can remove them without even taking the wheels off.

No way to answer your last question without knowing where the current issue is, if it's on the midpipe then more then likely the magnaflow will fit poorly also, if it's your catback then yes, this may resolve it

Still doesnt help, is the ball itself on the midpipe not right or is it the flange on the catback?

the midpipe is a true 2.5 ball, whereas the stock catback is some weird 2.45 inch or something. The guy at the exhaust shop said he sees it alot, the stock isnt really a 2.5 exhaust but aftermarket is. I'm assuming it will solve the problem but...

You can get your Catback off without cutting it just it would take more time to do it then to take a SawZall and just cut it off.

If you intend to resell your OEM catback just make the cut on the flat section after the flowtubes, this way it is easy to remove the pipes and an easy job to weld them back together for the new owner

my magnapack catback on my 96 gt has always been a pain to me. to many breaks in it in my opinion.

but it does sound good. im sure my issues are my own fault though. i have a new edge catback and it was used when i got it.
