Well first let me say hello, as this is my first question here. Now. I am putting on a set of gt40p's on my car, I had a 3 angle valve grind done on them. I asked the machinist if the guides were good and he hesitated ( as if to say he forgot to check ) and then said yes they were fine. Not convinced of that I pulled the springs off and I am checking them for myself. Now ford says the specs for these heads are as follows . Valve stem to guide clearance intake (inch) (0.0010-0.0027) Valve stem to guide clearance exhaust (inch) (0.0015-0.0032) Now I have no way to really measure this at home so I just mounted my dial indicator on the head ,set it as close to the guide as I can ,raised the valve slightly off the seat and rocked it back and forth. I know this is not a true measurment but here is what I got. The worst intake valve was .003 the worst exhaust was .004. Now knowintg that fords max is (we'll round it to .003 at the guide ) and knowing that I am not moving the guide exactly side to side but I am rocking it like a teeder todder does this seem good? Do any of you have a better shade tree ways of checking them. Like I said, the guy said they were fine, but he just didn't strike me as the best I have ever seen , and that will be my last use of him most likely. Any ideas?
