Clutch changing tips

Im going to be putting a new clutch in my 98 v6 any tips to someone who has never done this before

don't rush it, and remember where everything goes. lol. don't bolt the new clutch up without replacing/re-surfacing the flywheel. if you do you will have just wasted a brand new clutch and several hours of your time. :thumbsup:

a haynes manual will walk you through it.
use jack stands!
Put a drain pan under trans when you pull the drive shaft out.
Mark how the D/S was in rear end so you don't get 180* out when reinstalled. (possible vibs)
Refill trans when done.
A trans jack will help tons but not necessary.

start soaking the exhaust hardware a day or 2 before you start.

X2... I always just drain the transmission before I remove the driveshaft.. 3-4 quarts of transmission fluid is only $22...
Also, remember to leave the transmission in neutral before you unbolt the driveshaft, otherwise it will be very difficult to rotate
the driveshaft when the car is in the air to access all of the driveshaft-to-rearend bolts.

I agree with draining the trans. Changing the clutch is the best time to change your trans fluid. When refilling remove the fill lug, but fill it through where the gear shifter goes in. Stop filling when it comes out the filler plug. Much easier that way.

Ha.. I think the only time my fingernails are close to white is the 2 weeks of vacation I get per year... then they are back to black the
first day working again.

The pressure plate is what when out the owner befor me replaced just the clutch dick. SO does that mean i need to replace the flywheel if im puting a stage 2 clutch kit in it

Yes. Or have that one turned, or resurfaced.

Be sure to use that NOT WD-40. Dont ask me how I know......

Not necesarily. Take the flywhhel to the machine shop and have it resurfaced. If it is out of spec they will be able to tell you. Only if the flywheel is out of spec should you change it.
