the cobra motor also differs from the gt by the heads, it has the cast gt-40 heads which are a good mild upgrade from the stock gt e7's, the cam is a little different, it has a longer duration to it and a little more lift but the cobras; they have 1.7 roller rockers and the gt's have a cheap stamped steel 1.59 rockers, the throttle bodies on the cobra are 60mm, gt's are 52mm or 56mm or something like that in the 50's, cobras have 24 lbs injectors with a little better fuel pump and the gt's have 19 lbs with a crap pump, those are main differences and cobras are a bit under rated, they do make quite a bit more power than the gt's and a lot than the automatic gt's if you just want a good bang for buck deal and you havent done gears yet then a set of 3.73s or even 4.10s would make a big noticeable difference as for the intake question, the aftermarket gt-40 intake does flow a bit better than the stock gt-40, but the stock cobra is good enough i wouldnt waste time with a intake and cam until a good set of aluminum heads are bought, the intake is good enough and if you changed it to an aftermarket one you probably wouldnt really feel a big difference, but a good set a heads you will and then it is a good time to change to something like the edelbrock rpm 2 intake, i wouldnt even bother getting the aftermarket gt40 unless you get a damn good deal on it and then take it to have hogged out and port matched to the heads same thing goes with the cam, its good enough until a set of heads are bought, but also with a good cam and a stock cobra motor you will probably feel a good difference but nothing in the amounts that a set of heads will give you, and if you think like i do then if you plan on doing a cam you might as well do heads cause they have to come off to put a cam in and you might as well do both while youre ripping everything apart and the stock cam isnt even comparable to a good aftermarket cam, there are too many to list of good cams out there that will make more power and a custom grind one in my opinion is the best way to go, but like i said you will feel a difference with a good cam but nowhere as is if you had a good set of heads
