I took my car in for state inspection on monday. It failed. Battery hold down broken, I broke it and forgot about it. Pinion seal leaking. Front brake lines leaking.

Here is my thing, I knew the pinion seal was leaking, but I just did my front brakes and had no leaks. I just had tires installed the week before and there were no leaks. When I brought the car in there were no signs of my brakes leaking.

I took my car out to pick up pizza. When I got to the pizza joint, my parking brake cable snapped. This is the first time I used the car since monday, first pull of the brake handle "SNAP".

I get home and park the car in the driveway and go in the house through the garage. There is brake fluid on the floor where both tires were. Now the car did not leave brake fluid puddles on the floor before monday.

I pull out my console to check the brake cable. It is broken about 2 inches from the end. The cable is not freyed at all. All the strands are basically the same length accept for about 3-4 strands. It almost looks cut to me. I will post pics in a little while.

I just find these 2 items to be highly unusual braking/leaking at the same time, when I had no issues with either before monday.

wow... that sounds terrible... kill your front brakes (60% of braking power) then kill your e-brake so even if you down shift it will be challenging to stop... you would still have your rears if you didnt lose all your fluid...

are you lines cut? or is it a pressure washer?

Well, after I calmed down, sat in some good light and really took a close look at the cable. I decided it was all in my head and a big coincidence.

I started looking at the cable and it is not cut. I also started thinking and remembering that every now and then when I lifted on the parking brake I would hear a light snap. It happened so infrequent I never put it together until now.

So after relaxing and thinking about it, it all has just come together at the same time. If I had taken the car to some back woods shop it would bother me more. But I brought the car to a Ford dealer.
