Thanks, I think you are correct in your assessment. I do have to say this forum is pretty dang cool, I got so many responses, and all of them were helpful. I don't even officially own an SN anymore since my daughter "stole" it from me, but I do enjoy the site!

Is the hood damaged?

My worry would be that replacement Mach 1 hoods are difficult, if not impossible, to find.

I don't know about the hood cause I never went and looked at the car. Too many questions, but you bring up a good point, it had been in a front ender, I bet the hood was at least damaged and repaired.

what color is the Mach? I just missed a chance on a yellow one and would entertain talking to you further about that one if you pm me. We bought a salvage title car recently and found that you have to check and see what insurance will cover it, but we know that progressive covers them here in Colorado.

It was about logistics. It was a 4 hour drive away and couldn't get there before the weekend came around and he sold it. It was at a business that was locked up after 6pm etc. So yeah just didn't happen.

Do it. That's a good price for a running, shifting, driving 4 valve car!
I had a salvage title 2003 Mach 1 (red) a few years back. Basically the girl who owned it ran into the back of another car.
She wanted a different car anyway, so she got her daddy to get the body shop to total it saying the airbags popped (they didn't).

Isn’t that insurance fraud?

This leaves so much open that I can't say what I would do. They total these cars out now if a body shop guy needs to sneeze 2x next to the car and clean up the mess and those dudes sneeze a lot with all the dust. What exactly was the damage?

My husband bought a toy for when he was out of state. A salvaged 95 Mitsubishi 3000GT. $2000. It apparently had been totaled due to a hail storm. Hail damage was minimal. It was the factory pearl white paint that most likely totaled it. He gave the roof a thin bondo coat to smooth it out, then he resprayed it.

I don’t remember if he sold it for more than he paid. It was one of those deals where he worked from out of state. They were paying him To fly out every week, and for a rental, but rather than deal with the rental company weekly on how an SUV is not an upgrade, he decided to just buy a cheap car, and when his contract was over, sell the car quickly. So he technically did profit that way.

if you don't have extensive experience dealing with body work/repairs and stuff like that you're kinda going in blind on a salvage rebuild so taking someone to look at it that has that experience would be ideal.

For sure. Salvage cars can be a good deal but there is a lot of risk.
