I've posted before with this same problem, my car starts and idles fine, kind of misses but does decent up to about 3000rpm then just misses terribly when i get on it or try goin over 3000 rpm. I've changed my cap, rotor, PIP(Profile ignition pickup), had my Ignition module tested, put new plug wires on, put a new fuel filter on, and nothing has helped.

I pulled my codes and got 212 which is Loss of IDM(Ignition Diagnostic Monitor) to ECA or a Spout circuit is grounded. I was told i'm losing a spark somewhere...idk, i'm going to change my plugs, just been avoiding it cuz it's a pain on my car. Besides this i'm baffled and I can't stand having my car run like this. If I wanted a 18 second car I woulda bought a civic lol someone help me!

Thanks

what is your timing set at? when i try to drive mine with the spout out it would only run up to 3000.(to get emission tested), after that it would miss badly. are you sure the pip is seated all the way in with no broken or bent pins. i think the pip connector is just a jumper but i don't know for sure. maybe someone can verify that for sure.

I popped my dizzy cap off and I have that metal residue around the little knob that sticks down in the middle of the dizzy that touches the rotor, and the residue is off of the knob itself. My friend said to replace my coil b/c it's putting off not enough or too much spark...Any ideas on that notion?

Well, i've looked up what happens when a coil is on it's way out and basically there's 2 coils in each one, one which receives a charge which gives to the 2nd one which sends the charge and when they start to go out they only send a small charge which causes it to run extremely rough, more so if both the small coils in there are going out...I apparently need a multimeter to check the ohms to see if it's good or not. No auto parts stores around here seem to have them to use, bleh the last thing I want to do is spend more money and replace that thing and it end up not being the problem again...i'm stumped

I think your pcm may not be controlling your timing...Hook up a timing light like you would normally, then plug the spout back in after you verify base timing with it out...Once you plug the spout back in the computer should take over control of the timing based on the input from all the sensors...If you don't see a significant change then you got a problem somewhere in the ignition primary circuit...IF you think your coil is going bad you should test the power of the spark using a spark tester...The spark tester simulates the condition of the combustion chamber on the compression stroke by having an extra large gap...The big gap requires full voltage from the ignition coil to work....If there is no spark on the tester then that means you have a problem between the ignition coil and end of the spark plug wire...But like Paul said ignition coils rarely go out, unless it was dropped or you can visually see the spark coming out of cracks it's probably not your ignition coil...There are ways to test it though if you like, let me know...Good Luck

Well I kind of thought timing might be the issue until I looked under my dizzy cap and saw the carbon looking dust around the cap. If it wasn't timed right that wouldn't explain that at all. I'm still going to time it tomorrow probably just to be safe but what i'm thinking is it's either the dizzy itself or that coil. I should know for sure sometime tomorrow. Wish me luck

if the dizzy hasn't been replaced yet. it's going to go out before long. it's a commonly known prob for the 5.0's. like paul said coils don't go bad that often.

my distributor went out on me and it was idling and starting fine but when you would try to get into it, it would just make a lot of noise and couldn't get out of its own way. swapped in a MSD dizzy and it ran like a raped ape.

have you done any welding on the car?

1: Put a different alternator on, see if it still does it. I had a 2 brand new Autolites go bad, they internally shorted out, and it was missing like crazy over 3200.
2: Too much retard in timing can do this as well,
3: make sure your timing plug is all the way in.
4: Take out all your plugs, and check. 1 cracked plug can give you major issues.
5: Check your Coil just in case, plug another on in to make sure.
6: Your Dizzy might be acting up.

One thing at a time...
